Ca'Orologio - History of the Venetian Villa

Ca Orologio

Villa Ca'Orologio

d Ca’ Orologio Venetian Villa is located in Baone, little town situated on southern slopes of Euganei Hills, whose name comes from celebrations in honour of Bacchus held in pre-roman era.
d The origins of Baone, only 3 km away from the very ancient town of Este, are documented by archaeological finds, discovered during excavation carried out during 19th century, that  have brought to light evidences of peoples who lived on 8th century bc.
d First evidences documenting the construction of Villa Ca’ Orologio date back to 1546.
The Villa was erected as a country set by the family of marquesses Dondi Dall’Orologio and only afterwards, in the jubilee year 1675, Brother Girolamo Dondi Dall’Orologio, knight of Malta, founded here the Oratory of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption for the religious offices of the confraternity.
d The Oratory, clearly identifiable in napoleonic land register, was suppressed in 1838 and the Villa became a farmhouse. Maybe it is for its history that the atmosphere you breath is not the frivolous one of the society gatherings, but that of a peaceful place of meditation.
d Ca’ Orologio is now proudly back to its ancient splendour. It appears as a complex consisting of the Villa, a large rural porticoed annex ( Barchessa ) and a cultivated courtyard ( brolo ) enclosed by a boundary wall with a votive capital.
d The careful and accurate restoration concluded in 2003, in which were utilized traditional practices, materials and natural colours, took place in respect of original structures aiming at creating an authentic cosy and charming atmosphere.
